What part of your day do you look forward to the most?
The half hour alone I have each morning to enjoy my coffee, wake up slow, and think about the day ahead.
What's the biggest risk you've ever taken and why?
Moving to the Philippines to start an organization. I didn't have any management experience and had no idea what I was doing!
What do you want to leave behind?
A legacy of having improved the lives of women and girls.
About Ami: Amina (Ami) and our founder Kawthar met when Kawthar was pursuing her Masters of Public Health (MPH) degree. Ami selected Kawthar as a graduate student intern to fulfill her 7 month practicum requirement in the Phillipines. Kawthar describes her as one of the most amazing people she has ever met. Working with Ami changed the focus of Kawthar’s academic pursuits.
Ami is the Founding Executive Director of Roots of Health and the local administrative arm of the organization, Ugat ng Kalusugan. Roots of Health works to empower women, young people and families in the Philippines to lead healthy reproductive lives by providing rights- and results-based educational and clinical services. Amina received her Bachelor’s degree from Wellesley College, and her Master of International Affairs and Master of Public Health from Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs and the Mailman School of Public Health.
